Spyderco Endura4 Lightweight FRN Flat Ground PlainEdge Knife (Blue) Description

If you already own a Delica or Endura, you have one of the best selling knives Spyderco makes. The knife you have just acquired is a bit different from the normal C10 Endura4 and C11 Delica4 Lightweights. They are now available in a range of new handle colors with full-flat ground blades. Their FRN (fiberglass reinforced nylon) handles come in new vibrant tones including blue, green, brown, gray and purple. Molded onto the handle's surface is Bi-Directional Texturing® for slip-free tactile traction. Inside the handle are dual skeletonized stainless steel liners which strengthen the knife without additional weight and double as an anchor for external and internal components to attach through generating more sturdiness and rigidity. The blades are full flat-ground VG-10 with a thinner highly refined cutting edge and a larger 13mm opening hole. Added to the blade’s spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze washers smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left-or right-handed clip.

Customer Product Reviews

Spyderco C10FPBL Review by Stephen H. Poor (Booneville, Arkansas United States)

I have always wanted to like Spyderco knives. They have such an excellent reputation that I thought there must be something wrong with me for not liking them. But I have given them a fair shake and they have let me down.

I have tried some of Spyderco's lower-priced knives over the years and always been disappointed, but I thought I should try one of their nicer blades before writing off the whole company. I found a good price on an Endura and started carrying it every day. This is the "lightweight" model, but as near as I can tell that's all Spyderco makes any more-- there is no "regular" model.

The blade was scary-sharp when I received the knife. I am used to sharp knives but this was a cut above, so to speak. The knife cut beautifully, but I found I had to resharpen it about once a week. My Cold Steel Voyager needed a touch-up only every month or two, and it kept cutting well even when it got a little dull. The Endura does not.

The knife is slim, elegant, lightweight, and reasonably strong; although my Voyager seems to be much stronger. The Endura opens and closes easily, and locks up tight. With its steel skeleton below the plastic handles, it has plenty of stiffness, and the handle offers a comfortable but positive grip. It also doesn't abrade my clothing like the Voyager does.

In the end though, I need a knife for cutting things, and the Endura doesn't cut well for long enough to suit me. I have gone back to my Voyager and it's like being reunited with an old friend. The Endura is made in Japan.

Spyderco C10FPBL Review by kylemag

This Spyderco Endura 4 FFG is an absolute masterpiece for what you pay for it. Personally, I carry this knife more than any other knife in my collection. It is lightweight and, when clipped to your pocket, you completely forget about it until you need it. This is the sign of a good carryable blade. It is easy to conceal and the blackened pocket clip helps not draw attention to it.

BLADE STEEL
The VG10 is an awesome performer. Performance wise, it blows away AUS8, 420, 440. The only true competitor at this price is the 154CM from Benchmade. VG10 is made in Seki City, Japan, a place known for its ancient history of steel tempering and Samurai sword construction. Furthermore, it provides excellent rust resistance if you get it wet. I have seen this knife left out all night in the rain and snow and not even show a shadow of a blemish. Also, it takes a wicked sharp edge and holds that sharp edge for a long time. However, due to the high hardness of the VG10, you will chip it if the edge comes in contact with other hard objects. Then, you just need to sharpen it out. The VG10 is pretty easy to sharpen given its hardness.

HANDLE:
The fiberglass reinforced nylon handles keep the price of this knife down and provide excellent feel and traction. There is a bi-direction grip built into the handle to ensure this high traction. Also, the Spyderco emblem is strategically placed where the pocket clip ends, making it easy to slip onto your pocket without tearing up your pants. Behind these handles are stainless steel liners which reinforce the handles for heavy use. Also, the pocket clip has 4 positions machined into the handles so it is great for lefties and righties for tip-up or tip-down carry. If a deep clean is needed, the handles may be removed and the knife can be completely disassembled.

DESIGN/DEPLOYMENT
Overall, this is an extremely user-friendly knife that is completely ambidextrous. This is important to me as a lefty living in a right-handers world. The lockback mechanism is strong and can be actuated on the back of the handle. The spyderhole is a great deployment method which is, again, good for both hands. The blade itself is excellent for cutting boxes, opening mail, and at 3.75 inches, is an adequate size for personal defense if that is an issue. This blade can deployed fastly and smoothly. Also, it does not draw a lot of attention despite its big size. It does not look as threatening as some offerings from Cold Steel like the Recon 1. This is another great blade but it is very intimidating to some.

Overall, I highly recommend this blade for the money. Most blades with VG10 steel are over $100 and this is nearly half that price. It is a great value. However, if you are still not too sure you wanna spend $50-$60 on a knife but like this particular blade, check out the Byrd CaraCara 2. It is also made by Spyderco but is only $20 and it is identical! It is an excellent knife as I own that one as well. You will, however, notice the difference in quality but both are excellent for the price.

Spyderco C10FPBL Review by WIShooter

As soon as I took hold of this knife out of the box I was in love! It's light, but sturdy and is razor sharp. The jimping is superb and the full flat ground blade is great for daily or tactical use. I couldn't be happier with this blade. An absolute Homerun!
